PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS
It is important that I have a good photo to work from otherwise it can be difficult to produce a good portrait. The most important thing is that the photo is taken up close so that lots of detail on your pet is visible.
The photos below are examples of photos that would be good to work from.
Usually its a good idea to try and get down to the level of your pet when taking the photo so that the camera isn't pointing down as that often creates an angle which looks strange.
A good technique is to have someone next to you who distracts the pet with a treat, or by saying a word that gets their attention. This gives you the chance to take a good photo while the pet is focused on them. It is also a good angle for the pets face to be in because it is looking slightly to the side rather than completely side or front on. This tends to look better in portraits.
If the pet is small enough it is a good idea to get someone to hold them while you take the photo.
If you take the photograph inside then try taking it by a window( with your back to the window and your pet facing it, so that the natural light is shining on them).
If you are taking the photo outside then have the light behind you. If you are facing the light then there might be very dark shadows on your pets face in the photo.
Finally its a good idea to take plenty of photos and that way usually at least one of them will turn out well.
